Perfume Factory

History

Built in 1771

Le Foulon was built in 1771, originally as a factory for the production of linen sheets. The fibres were washed and beaten in the little stream that still runs past the property. The house was later enlarged and converted into a factory for the pressing of scent from the myriad of local flowers that were cultivated in the area, to be sent to the perfume producers of Grasse. In certain parts of the house one can still smell lavender.

During the First World War the house was converted into use as a lazarette for the treatment of wounded soldiers.

More recently Le Foulon has been a private residence and in 2018 has undergone a major and total refurbishment, without losing an atom of its original charm.
